These are a few chapters that can be difficult to stay with. I found some keys points I want to share. Gods plan is active and some actions that are because of man’s desires.
Chapter 19 shows us Gods rath on Sodom and Gomora. Verse 13 – For we, Gods angels will destroy the city completely. The stench of the place has reached to heaven and God has sent us to destroy it. Even when we live amongst the evil in the world God sees us. He saw Lot and his family and saved them from the rath of God on the city. Verse 16 – When Lot still hesitated, the angel seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed to safety, for the Lord was merciful.
How many times do we hesitate on Gods direction in our life? Still making bargains on where our life should go. Its so hard as humans to fully follow Christ plan for our life. Like Lots family the Holy Spirit is there to lead us onto the next city, family or journey.
God promises will be fulfilled. We are taught in verse 26 of chapter 19 how important is is to really let go of our past.Lots wife stops, looks back and turns to a piller of salt.
It dosent say, where Lots wifes thoughts where when she looked back at the city. We can image that there may have been some greif for her daughters loss, her dreams of weddings and grandchildren.
Back in vers 14 we read Lot rush out to tell his daughters fiances…but the young men looked at him as though he had lost his senses.
It is so hard when God ask us to leave our old friends and maybe some unhealthy relationships for Him to deal with. We want those we care about to hear the good news.
Then in chapter 20 Abraham lies yet again to save his own skin. In verse 9-10 King Abimelech questions Abrahams intentions. “what have I done that deserves treament like this?to make me quilty of this great sin.”
We forget that our sinful actions, little white lies, can hurt others and when we are found out the harm it does in our testemony to others can be harmful. (verse 10b).
Then in verses 11 & 12 Abraham trys to justify his actions. Im sure all of us have done this. We get caught and either we justify our ‘litle’ sin to ourselves or those we trapped in the lie with us. Abraham shows in verse 17 not only do we seek Gods forgiveness but to heal those hurt in our lie.
Its so easy to go to God in repentence and think that is enough. But truely we need to ask for forgivness from those we hurt and pray for their healing.
In chapter 21 we read about Sarahs bitterness towards Ishmel, Hagars son for teasing Isaac. Sarah insited that Abraham send them away. This troubled Abraham deeply for this was his son. God heard Abrahams pain and saved the slave girl and Ishmel on their journey.God doesent forget us when we hurt in silence. He hears our crys for the broken,
Know this, if you have had to let go of someone God hasnt turned His back on your pain. God does not abondon the lost. Revelations 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person and they with me.
In Chapter 22 things can get a little confusing. Why would God test Abraham’s faith and obedience by asking him to sacrifice his own son?!
As i sat with this I was directed to Gods Son that He did sacrifice for us. No angel stopped God and asked; is this what you really want to do?” Your are willing to sacrifice your Son for all these sinful people that have turned their backs on you and no longer call you Lord of Lord. They live a life on their own accord.
Yes!God choose us! He loves you and me so much that He sacrificed His Son so that we can through repentance and grace be with Him in eternity.
Chapter 24 introduces us to Rebekah and as we read on in our bibles we will see her great faith in God, charity, commitment and reverence. Rebekah is considered a woman of remarkable courage.
As we continue to read on in chapter 24 we see how even in doubt; doubt in our abilites or faith that God will come through; He will fulfill His promises.
God fulfills His promise we have read so far. Abraham dies (verse 7 Isaac is blessed by God (verse 11). The sons that have been born of Ishmael form the 12 tribes and generations begin to scatter across the country.
Chapter 25 in verse 19-24 we are as surprised as Rebekah of the news of her pregancy. Twins Jacob and Esau are introduced. Many of the descendents are listed.
As the chapter closes we read how Jacobs real cahacter comes out. He must have been a handfull as a child.
Jacob steels Esau birth rights. He bribes Esau with food or starvation.
I pray that you will read along with me. Let God speak through these chapters and stories to your heart. Let the Holy Spirit show you what God wants you to hear today. These chapters remind us of Gods faithfulness and mercy. They set the stage for His plan in each of our lives and introduces us to so many generations of people that will show us how His mercy and blessing will fill our life when we choose Him first.
These chapters have reminded us of our sinful nature and how our actions can hurt ourselves and others.
Keep you light bright for God. Know that the world is watching. God loves us and has given us a way to Him.
