a young mans life

Many struggled with His truth; our truth. So many fought against His mercies. So many denied Him and still do today.

I sat in the airport wondering if I was going to be able to get on the plane. You see my ticket had been deleted from our family itinerary. As I approached the counter to inquire about my missing ticket. I was met by a defensive attendant. Don’t worry we will get you a ticket just go sit down and wait.

I was handed a paper ticket as we boarded and headed for my seat. I was pleasantly surprised; right new to one of my grandsons and across from the rest of my family. I smiled as i settled in for the three-hour flight.

It wasn’t long though and a small crowd began to gather around me. Fingers pointing, voices rising; “you’re in my seat!” Its her the two attendants from the ticket counter announced.

In the confusion and surprise I offered to move to an open seat but I was not going to get off that plane. We had a trip of a lifetime planned with our grandchildren and I didnt want to miss out.

After a little back and forth the father of the two small children calmly and graciously moved to the front of the plane away from his family. I saw him a couple times during the flight as me maneuvered back to say hi. See you in just a little bit. The girls smiled and you could tell their faithers assurance in his eyes and the smile back at them provided the comfort they didn’t even know they needed.

Just like Jesus who took our place on the cross. He went to the front of the line and sacrificed Himself for us; His children. Jesus spent 30 short years on this earth, experienced the same things we do today in our lives.

This one young man on the plane that day couldn’t be more than 30. A father who gave up his purchased seat for 3 hours. He showed his children what mercy looks like. Not only for me but for all who were on the plane that day. His sacrifice prevented further delays and disruption on our flight.

Jesus’ 3 days in the grave showed His children and continues to show mercy, righteousness and the willingness to sacrifice His comfort for all of us. Jesus was beaten, whipped and spit on so we could be forgiven.

Those 3 hours may have felt like a lifetime to those little children away from their dad. Confusing to those little minds, why did their dad have to be separated from them at all. Their dad knew something they didn’t. After the 3-hour flight he would see them again and they would spend their vacation and the rest of their life with him.

Jesus knew something too. Those three days in the grave would bring no more greif. No more seperation only an eternity with Him for His children.

Matthew 28:5-6 “He is not here, He has risen, just as He said.”

Just like the 3 hours on the plane flight for those young girls; Jesus knew that day on the cross and the three days in the tomb would feel like a lifetime to those with Him. He also knew that the short time would be enough to pay our debt. Colossians 2:14 “and having canceled the record of debt that stood against us with its decrees, which was against us, he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”

Jesus now sits at the right hand of God. He stands at the door of our heart waiting for His children to arrive. Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock,if any man will open the door, I will come in to hm , and eat with him, and he with me.

During this season of Passover know that Jesus is waiting for those that are lost, not forgotten; weary but not broken; humble but not humiliated. That young man on the plane could have made things go very differently. He could have shown his children what the world thinks of others. That day he choose to be like Jesus.
