As I sat this morning, I reflected on the years of wondering in my wilderness. What was I running from? What are you running from?
I continued to read Numbers and Deuteronomy in my bible. I was reminded of some very pitiable points in my life. Some amazing victories and some not so much.
Satan fools us. he deceives us by making us believe what God spoke as a blessing is a burden. Look back in Genesis when the serpent (satan) tricked Adam and Eve into believing that God didn’t really mean for them to not eat of the forbid fruit from the tree.
Time and time again the Israelites were deceived in believing that God had forgotten them. That God wasn’t really listening to what they wanted or what they thought they needed.
God wants to give us victory over our enemies. Victory over problems that arise out of our sinful nature. But first we must believe that God can help us.
Events in our life trigger memories and emotions. Our past is a magnifying glass of promises, failures, victories and embarrassing moments. We want to close the book on some of those moments.
As hard as it can be to see our past mistakes; no matter how small; we can embrace them. Embrace them? Embrace the regret or failures?
Along with these reminders that satan is trying to harm us with; God was there. He is right here with you and I in this moment. Deuteronomy 4:31 – For the Lord God is a merciful God. He will not abandon you or destroy you or forget the solemn covenant He made.
As the Israelites prepared to enter the promise land we begin to read in Deuteronomy 29:2-30:20 Moses’ third address to the people. His message is a written convenant between God and His people. A covenant for generations to come (29:15)
God wants to give us victory over our enemies (our past sin). But first we must believe that He can help us. Second, we must turn to Him in our time of trouble and trust Him to help us. What can God show us so we can be healed and not destroyed. Lastly, we must take the steps He shows us in His written word.
Go back to Deuteronomy 5 and read through the 10 commandments. These are not just suggestions on how to try to act. These are instructions on how to live honoring God.
Don’t be afraid to look back. Allow the Holy Spirit to heal you and lead you. You are leading the next generation. Deuteronomy 31:6 – So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you (vrs 8).
May your memories become like the spring flower. Reaching for the sun and soaking up the gentle rain. God will shine on you and wash the darkness that our enemy wants us to cling to.
God never abandoned His people. We were reminded this last week of the new covenant given to us. Gods only son, to take on our sin and conquer death. Never to abandon us.
May the God of lover shine upon you this week. Accept His mercies and know He is the beginning and the end.
