preparation

Have you ever prepared for a test? Or maybe had to prepare for an interview? Sometimes we have to prepare for a conversation with someone. We think about our words carefully, practicing, planning for any resistance or even acceptance. Will I pass the test? Will I get the job offer? How will the person respond?

I actually have been in all of these situations. Test are my kryptonite. Test always were and probably will be the rest of my life. These days I stay as far away from them as possible.

Preparing for a job interview. Well, I am a loyal employee and haven’t had to prepare for too many interviews throughout my life. I am on my third career in the past 60 plus years. This last journey God placed me at has been the most rewarding professionally, personally and spiritually.

I am at a place where God has opened my eyes to growth in my relationship with Him and He has opened many doors for me to share my faith and His love. That said; the journey has presented some pretty tough battels. Battels I wasn’t sure I would have victory. With God at my side I have overcome obstacles and grown a deeper relationship with Jesus as my Lord.

This is where we find Moses in Deuteronomy. The Israelites spent 40 years on a journey that should have lasted 11 days. In my 60+ year journey it wasn’t distance that stood in my way just like it wasn’t for the Israelites.

I have struggled right along with the Israelites on my journey. Not always aligning my heart with God. But God never abandons us. We will read in Deuteronomy 31:8 “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave your or forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 1 – We all have a Moses in our life. Our pastor or a spiritual mentor who provides us moments to reflect on Gods previous care for those that went before us and in our life. We would miss out on Gods purpose in our life if we didn’t spend time reflecting on His word. Reading how God will prepare His followers to live in obedience once we arrive.

In Deuteronomy 1:9-13 we are reminded why it is so important to find a church community that can come together around us in our troubles. Praying for us and sharing their stories. In Deuteronomy 1:13-18 we are given a list of characteristics to look for in a Christ follower in our life.

Verse 2:25- Like the Israelites the world may see us as meek or timid. But we know this truth; we always have God on our side. He prepared those ahead of us to see our light He love provides. Many will fear us and evil will stick time and time again. With God on our side and following His commands we will have victory.

As you prepare for this coming week, weather you have a test or not; remember Gods promise. Deuteronomy 4:31 – For the Lord your God is a merciful God, He will not abandon you or destroy you or forget your ancestors. These commands are given to us (4:40) so we will enjoy a long life in the promises God has in store for each one of us.
