My friend and I often ask each other; what is God trying to teach me now? Why do we face challenges in our life? We know that our God is merciful, and we have an entire book, the bible to read miracle after miracle.
Lately one of the greatest joys I have seen in my life and right in front of me in others’ lives is watching God open our eyes to His blessings. What is God preparing my eyes and heart to see through the Holy Spirit?
In Acts 9:18 we read one of the best descriptors of God reveling His mercy and graces. In Acts 9 Saul was planning to chain the hands of the followers of Jesus. In verse 8 Saul picked himself up off the ground, but when he opened his eyes he was blind. Jesus had put blinders on Sauls eyes for He knew of his plans to unjustly punish the followers of Jesus. Saul was sent to Damascus to find Ananis for God had spoken to him and explained he would proform a miracle on Sauls eyes. Verse 18 Instantly something like scales fell from Sauls eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized. Sauls name was change to Paul which means humble. It states in Acts 9 that both the scales put on and taken off of Sauls eyes were immediate.
Learning to see is a gradual process. Sometimes it can take years for our eyes to recognize shapes. But dont be discouraged by that news. Peeling off the scales of our old self and how e see the world may have taken years to develop. Some of us have been blinded by others thoughts and beliefs for years.
Once our scales begin to fall they give way fast. The most gracious part of scales falling from our eyes is we are given freedom. Sometimes we can forget how we got there; we forget about the climb to peace. 1 Peter 5:10 “And the God of all grace; who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little, will himself restore you, make you strong, and give you a firm foundation.”
The scales being removed from our eyes we will see things differently. We need to retrain our eyes to see the shapes differently, with a new lens. I am drawn to the phrase in the song Amazing Grace – I once was blind but now I see
We get focused on our blind spots or we can stay close to God through His word and in our prayer life. Ask Hi to open our eyes to see our growth in our relationship we have with our Savior.
Be genuine in your conversations with the spiritually blind. Salvation is a miracle. Growth in your spiritual life is a blessing. Work in our life through the Hoy Spirit is redemptive. The work of the Holy Spirit in our life is enlighten. We must be on guard of those who claim enlightenment in our secular world. There are many scales that can blind us. Ignorance, prejudice, unbelief, and worldliness to name just a few.
What scales blind you today or have blinded your growth in the past? We want to be open to Gods gift of sight and change in our life so that we can be a light of the gospel and the glory of God. Our leading is not much different than Paul’s. Acts 26:17-18 – I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.
Open the eyes of my heart Lord, I want to see you. Be encouraged today in your blindness and seek Gods hands in removing the scales from your eyes and heart. Experience the Holy Spirit at work in your life.
