As we sat across the room from each other I looked intently. Why do I feel so distant from you? Where have you been these last few days, weeks, or months? I know your right here in font of me; you seem so far away.
Sometimes we can feel this way in our relationships. Dare I say in our most sacred relationships. Our marriage, our best friends and our adult children.
Let’s be honest. We start to believe that the person across from us has forgotten about us or just hasnt invested time for us.
What about you? Just like the Israelites wondering for years we are actually the one that is wondering apart from those across from us. Being distracted by the world around us. Soon we begin to wonder where did Jesus go? I can not feel His presence in my life or see Him moving in my life.
Have to be honest here. Where have you been wondering? Have you allowed work, the kids, commitments, or just life distract you from you part in your relationships?
We have to invest time in our relationships. Sitting on the sideline waiting for something to change doesn’t cut it.
Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. For anyone who ask receives and he who seeks finds and to him who knocks it will be opened,”
Jesus didnt say I’m here. Just sit back and let me do all the for our relationship. He wants us to actively purse Him. Stay in the bible even if the chapters seem unrelatable to us at the moment. Exodus, Numbers and Joshua describe the Israelites journey to the Promise Land. It didnt end there. Their story continues on for many generations and years of wondering and being lost and disconnected from their role in their relationship with God. They had to do their part everyday. We read about failures and loss time and time again.
God never forgot about them
Lord today we seek your forgiveness for our part. For not seeking your commands in our relationships. Open our hearts and eyes to what you want us to do; for our part. Help us to honor you in those relationships. We want a deeper relationship with you so that we can be of your character in our relationships every day.
God bless those we love. Show us our blind spots and help us to surrender to you first. Amen
