It has been a warm summer here for us in the midwest. The lakes have been full of swimmers in the cool water.
I jumped in from the edge of the boat with a big splash. The sound of breaking the water created a splash that came down on top of the lake like heavy rain drops. As I began to kick my legs to reach the surface again, I could feel the tension of the water against my legs. I looked up and saw the sun glistening on the surface.
Racing for the escape of the water that surrounded me. Then just for a moment I stopped. I thought when I reach the top and break the surface I am free from the darkness that is around me. The unknow that is swimming beneath me.
What is really up there. Who is up there waiting for me to break free from beneath the surface. As I came up I saw my family. Each of their faces were bright with smiles and laughter bounced off each other. The adults cheering on our children as they swam just a litter farther from the boat each time and scurried back to the safety of the boat on top of the water.
We all had either a lifejacket, noodle or floating chair that day. We were swimming in the same spot we went to every year. The deepest part of the lake out of the way of boat traffic. There were a couple of other boats around us enjoying the same cooling moments from the hot sun that day.
As I wrapped the pool noddle under my arms, I was able to just float and take in the sounds and sights. As I began to relax the tension in my body I realized the symbolism of the life jackets and floaties. Each time one of us jumped in the water we were pushed to the top by the floating device of our choice that day. I closed my eyes looked up as the sun warmed my face. I reflected on the life savior I have been given. The day I chose to accept Jesus Christ as my eternal Savior He pushed me to the top and out of the deep darkness of my sin.
I recalled the day I was baptized; coming up out of the water, the Holy Spirit embodying my heart and soul. In Luke 4 Jesus is baptized by John and this is one of the moments we are shown the trinity. The heavens opened and the Holy Spirit in bodily form descended on Him like a dove; and a voice from heaven said: You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.: Luke 3:21-23 Jesus was: full of the Holy Spirit” when He rose from the water.
We too experience the trinity when we choose to make our commitment to a relationship with Jesus. He no longer stands at the door and knocks. (Revelation 3:20) We welcome Him into our hearts and our bodies are transformed from a shell to the temple of the Lord.
The Holy Spirit begins his work in our lives. God begins to open our eyes to all His blessings. 1 John 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God!
Splash! Right in my face! I am drawn back to one ofGods greatest blessings in my life. My family!
Hang onto your loved ones just a little tighter today. Show them how much love God has for them. Be the light of God in any darkness that may cross their path. Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world; a town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
