So I have struggled with my weight most of my life. Never felt like I measured up. I have through the grace of God begun to accept who I am and understand the desire God gives us to take care of ourselves.

The biggest change has come through the understanding that my body is a temple to the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

I have been trying to eat healthier. Or I should say my body has been telling me to eat better and not put certain foods in. With ‘eating better’ I have found so many recipes and books that teach us it’s all about flavor. We want to smell first and taste food on our tongues that is exciting, comforting and enjoyable. Now I am probably more daring when it comes to taste. I love good spicy foods. Not like hot wings. These are not about good taste it is just about heat and courage to get through the basket of wings.

Back to finding the best books that teach us how to spice up the healthy food. What about the big book? You know the one, the bible, Gods word. What does it say about spice in our lives.

In Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus declared who we are “salt of the earth” and “light of the world”.Ok, I am not going to run around dumping salt on people or in places I think are unholy. I am certainly not going to carry a light around with me everywhere I go either.

This is not what Jesus is saying to His followers. Jesus wants us to be a person called to be a preservative force in the world. Resisting the moral decline and to speak out for righteousness. We are to add positive influence on our communities, making the world a better place.

When we use sale on our food it is absorbed into the flavor. We cant always get away from the impurities in the world. If we stand with the Holy Spirit, we can maintain our values and morals and not confirm to this world.

What about the light of the world. It seems like the world is pretty dark these days. The hearts of many have been darkened by hateful ideas and hurtful actions. Just like the city on the hill cannot be hidden Christians are called to live in a way that brings glory to God. Letting people see Gods goodness through us so they to can find a way home.

Take a moment and pray for an opportunity to be a light to someone today. To bring hope into their despair, laughter into their sadness, full into their empty, kindness into their grumpiness. May God bless and reward you in tangible ways as you seek to live according to His Kingdoms purposes today!
