Work and rest

Work and rest
I still work full time, a 9-5 five days a week. Some days I struggle to get there. But most days, the days I start with God I am ready to be present and a light to others.
There are people who believe the job they have is all because they deserve it. The word owes them a high paying job and a title to go with it. Then there are others who beleive they have gotten the shaft. The bottom of the totem pole and keep being looked over when the next promotion comes us. The world is out to get them.
I am not discrediting the hard work and longs hours many have given to get where they are. People have gone to college to gain a solid foundation in business and a career path.
And those that keep getting passed by for the promotion? Is it their fault? It could be. What I hope is that we remeber that our job, career is the office, the tradesmen or how about our household managers. All of these are blessings from God.
These are a part of Gods original design for humanity. In Genesis 2 we read Gods plan started with Adam in the garden of Eden. Our work contributes to the well being of self, ones family and contributes to society.
What about us, those of us who claim Jesus as our Father and Savior? Christians thzt are in the workforce or at home scheduling daily activities? We are encouraged to work diligently and with integrity. Work allows us to steward the resources and talents God has entrusted us with.

Rest is also a command of God. He gave us an example when He rested in the beginning on the seventh day. Genesis 2:2-3. Rest is a gift from God too. A time to focus our hearts on God and reflect on our week. We seek eyes that see His work in our lives and those around us. We thank Him for His faithfulness and blessing in our day. We thank Him for His strength when things felt hard.
I read this today, Rest is not the opposite of work. This statement seemed odd to me. The further I read on it became a necessary part of my work.
When my life is aligned with God. When our heart is refreshed by God we can work well and with purpose.
We can seek God’s guidance and our dependence on Him. Faithfully honoring God to sustain us. Trusting Him for provision and strength.
I find rest outside in God’s creation. Knowing He created the ground under my feet. The sounds of the birds and the smell of nature for my pleasure.
Refresh yourself in God’s grace and love. Rest on His holiness and seek His love to share with others.
God forgive our short comings this past week. Thank you for your blessings and talents I have. Thank you for the Holy Spirit within us so that we can be a light in someone’s day next week. Amen
